Hungary commemorates its State Foundation Day with some disco statues – PHOTOS
Some strange but quite stylish statues were rolled along Andrássy Avenue this morning.
Hungary has started its three-day-long, festival-like celebration honouring the Foundation Day of the country.
What do Hungarians celebrate on August 20?
This August 20 is said to be the biggest celebration ever, with Europe’s biggest fireworks. Festivities will finish on Sunday, that is when we will be able to assess this statement made by the government. Nevertheless, the opening day already holds one title: the strangest yet most stylish parade.
On Thursday morning, people talked about some strange pictures posted on Facebook. People spotted two huge creatures on Alkotmány Street, which leads to Kossuth Square in front of the Parliament.
One of them is
the most important emblem of Hungarian mythology, the so-called “Miraculous Hind”.
According to the myth, a hind guided two sons of a big warrior king to their future wives. The two couples founded the nation of the Huns together. Usually, the hind is depicted as golden, with a morning star on its forehead.
What people could see on Thursday was a different interpretation of the Miraculous Hind, as
the statue was shining in a pink-magenta colour.
The hind was not the only national and mythical animal participating in the parade and celebration.
A big Turull bird, completely dressed in the same pink-magenta colour, was also waiting on the street.
As it turned out today, and as 24.hu already mentioned on Thursday, when these photos were taken, the statues were both wearing a pink protection layer.
The Turull had a precise role. It was the vehicle of Hungarian singer Szilvia Péter Szabó who performed on top of Hungary’s national symbol.
Of course, the most important person of the event, without whom we would not be here today, could not miss the impressive parade.
The statue of St. Stephen and his enlarged signature from the founding document of the state looked as if they were inspired by a disco ball.
Government statements were not wrong. The parade was truly unique in Europe, and probably in the world as well.
Were you there to watch it with your own eyes? How did you like it?
